Brewing a Better Morning - My CoffeeSock Journey

Brewing a Better Morning - My CoffeeSock Journey

Back in September 2024, I made a small but meaningful change to my daily routine, I introduced CoffeeSock into my life. Before that, my coffee journey was… let’s just say less than inspiring. Disposable packs and pods were convenient, sure, but they never quite felt right. And as I worked toward making my household a little more eco-friendly, they became an obvious area for improvement.

When I began searching for upgrades to my daily routine, some choices were no-brainers, like switching to shampoo bars or reusable paper towels. But the real game-changer was discovering the CoffeeSock.

Here’s the funny part: I hadn’t used my actual coffee pot in so long that I’d practically forgotten coffee filters even existed! But once I dug into CoffeeSock’s catalog, I was blown away by the variety of options they offered.

For my first try, I went with the coffee basket filter for a standard drip coffee maker, and it worked like a charm. I was so impressed that I decided to add it, along with a No. 4 cone filter, to the Respectful Goods shop. My plan is to introduce more styles and varieties in the near future, but for now, these two felt like the perfect start.

Now, I’m not a coffee snob when it comes to brewing techniques, but I can tell you this: the basket-style CoffeeSock works amazingly well.

How to Use Your CoffeeSock

One of the best things about CoffeeSock is how simple it is to use:

  1. Place your CoffeeSock filter into your coffee maker’s basket, smooth side facing in (make sure the sewn seams are on the outside).

  2. Add your ground coffee.

  3. Brew as normal.

  4. Once the coffee’s done, dump out the grounds and rinse the CoffeeSock under running water, removing any leftover debris.

  5. Wring out excess water and open it up as much as possible to air dry.

That’s it. No complicated process, just great coffee with less waste.

How to Deep Clean Your CoffeeSock

After several uses, you’ll want to give your CoffeeSock a deep clean. Here’s my go-to method:

  1. Fill a cooking pot with filtered water (tap water works too if filtered isn’t available).

  2. Bring the water to a boil.

  3. Add your CoffeeSock to the pot and let it simmer, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t stick to the bottom.

  4. Using tongs, remove the CoffeeSock and place it into a bowl of cold water (I like to toss in a few ice cubes to cool it quickly).

  5. Once it’s cool enough to handle, wring it out. If it still seems heavily coffee-stained, you can repeat the boiling step, but honestly, a little “coffee flavor” left in the fabric isn’t a bad thing.

Why I Love It

The CoffeeSock has been a simple, eco-friendly upgrade that fits right into my life. It’s reusable, easy to clean, and eliminates the constant need for disposable filters. For those who don’t want to deal with cleaning coffee grounds, I also carry If You Care eco-friendly disposable coffee filters as another sustainable option.

If you haven’t tried a CoffeeSock yet, I highly recommend it. It’s one of those small changes that makes your daily routine more sustainable without sacrificing convenience, or flavor.
